The Effect of the Problem Based Learning Model Assisted by Audiovisual Media on the Poetry Writing Skills of Tenth Grade Students at SMKN 6 Padang
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research is motivated by several factors. First, teachers have not utilized the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in the classroom. Second, there is a minimal use of supporting media in the learning process. Third, many students face difficulties in writing poetry. Consequently, this study aims to achieve three objectives: first, to describe the poetry writing ability of tenth-grade students at SMKN 6 Padang before implementing the audiovisual media-assisted PBL model; second, to describe their poetry writing ability after the implementation of the model; and third, to analyze the effect of the audiovisual media-assisted PBL model on the students' poetry writing ability by comparing their performance before and after the intervention. This study employs a pre-experimental method with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. The sample was selected using a cluster sampling technique with purposive considerations, resulting in the inclusion of the Tenth-Grade Culinary 3 (X Kuliner 3) class as the research sample. The research data consists of student performance test scores in writing poetry. Furthermore, because the data was not normally distributed, it was analyzed using non-parametric statistics via the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Rank Test (SPSS Version 29). The author then drew conclusions based on these statistical results. The results indicate that the p-value calculated using the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Rank Test is 0.001. Since 0.001 < 0.05, the null hypothesis is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the audiovisual media-assisted Problem-Based Learning model has a significant effect on the poetry writing ability of tenth-grade students at SMKN 6 Padang. Additionally, the dominance of 21 out of 27 students in the Positive Ranks group provides strong empirical evidence of the success of this learning intervention.
