Abstract

The rapid advancement of information technology has transformed various aspects of community life, including the participation of Generation Z in rural development. Although Generation Z is the most active group of internet and social media users, digital technology is still predominantly utilized for entertainment rather than for productive activities that contribute to community development. This community service program aimed to enhance the participation of Generation Z through digital literacy education in Ondorea Village. The program employed the Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) approach, consisting of preparation, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up stages. The activities included educational seminars, interactive discussions, simulations, hands-on digital literacy practices, and evaluations using pre-test and post-test instruments. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants' understanding of digital literacy concepts, the ability to identify valid information, digital ethics, personal data protection, and the productive use of digital media. Furthermore, participants demonstrated increased engagement in utilizing digital platforms to promote village potential, support local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), disseminate public information, and actively participate in village development initiatives. The program demonstrates that digital literacy education is an effective strategy for strengthening digital competencies and empowering Generation Z as agents of change in supporting digital transformation and sustainable rural development.
