Abstract

Learning motivation is an important factor in supporting the effectiveness and quality of the learning process. Students with good learning motivation tend to be more active, focused, and willing to participate in learning activities. Teachers have an important role in building student motivation through encouragement, guidance, attention, varied learning methods, appreciation, and the creation of a comfortable learning environment. This study aims to describe the role of teachers in building student learning motivation to improve the quality of learning at SMP Negeri 25 Kota Bengkulu. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained through interviews with teachers using ten questions related to student learning motivation, factors affecting motivation, teacher strategies, learning methods, approaches to less active students, appreciation, obstacles, evaluation, and the impact of increased motivation on learning quality. The results show that student learning motivation at SMP Negeri 25 Kota Bengkulu is still relatively low, as indicated by students who are less focused and less active during learning. Teachers attempt to overcome these conditions by providing encouragement, guidance, attention, varied learning methods, opportunities for discussion and questions, as well as appreciation for student participation. Teachers also approach students who are less motivated to identify the causes and provide appropriate guidance. These efforts contribute to increased student participation and focus, thereby supporting a more effective and conducive learning proces.
