A Gender Analysis of Leen Liu’s Novel Rumah untuk Alie
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study describes forms of gender injustice experienced by the main character in Leen Liu’s novel Rumah untuk Alie. It employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The primary data source is Rumah untuk Alie, published by Tekad Media Cakrawala in 2024 and consisting of 259 pages. Data were collected through reading and note-taking, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was addressed through theoretical triangulation. According to the summary in the thesis abstract and results section, 33 instances of gender injustice were identified: 5 instances of marginalization, 5 of subordination, 4 of stereotyping, 19 of violence, and none of double burden. Violence was the most dominant category and included physical, nonphysical, and sexual violence. These findings indicate that the novel represents the main character’s experiences of gender injustice through treatment and relationships within her family.
